Where are your products manufactured?
Our ceramics are handcrafted in our studio inHong Kong, using premium clay and glazes sourced fromJingdezhen, China — renowned as the world's porcelain capital for over a thousand years.
Why does my product look slightly different from the website photos?
Just like no two snowflakes are ever completely identical, no two pieces from ROOT24STUDIO are ever exactly the same.
Each of our products is crafted and glazed by human hands. During the high-firing process in the kiln, natural and organic reactions occur within the glaze, causing subtle variations in color, texture, and shading. These beautiful, uncontrollable changes are what make your piece truly one-of-a-kind. We invite you to embrace these gentle imprints of human craftsmanship and find peace in their perfect imperfections.
Is ROOT24STUDIO stoneware dishwasher and microwave safe?
Yes, absolutely! Our stoneware mugs are built for daily life and are completely microwave and dishwasher safe. Our non-toxic, durable glaze handles daily warming and washing with ease, and the mugs are shaped to fit beautifully into home dishwashers. You can enjoy your cozy, healing coffee rituals without any extra cleaning hassle.
(Note: Our earthenware flower pots and vases should not be put in the microwave or dishwasher.)
Is ROOT24STUDIO stoneware oven safe?
Only our stoneware products (such as our mugs) are oven safe. Our earthenware products (like planters and certain vases) should not be used in the oven.To keep your stoneware pieces beautifully intact and avoid damage, we highly recommend following these guidelines:
- Avoid Thermal Shock: Sudden, intense temperature changes can cause clay to crack. For example, never transfer a chilled piece directly from the refrigerator into a preheated oven.
- Gradual Heating: We suggest placing your piece in a cold oven and letting it warm up gradually as the oven heats.
- Cool Down Slowly: After baking, let the hot piece cool down naturally on a trivet or countertop. Do not place a hot dish directly into a cold sink, onto a chilled surface, or back into the fridge.
- Temperature Limits: We do not recommend baking at temperatures over 400°F (200°C). Please do not use the broiler setting.
- Inspect Before Use: Always check your piece for any pre-existing hairline cracks. The intense heat of an oven will cause these cracks to expand, which may lead to breakage.
Does your stoneware contain lead?
No, absolutely not. All of our stoneware mugs are 100% lead-free and cadmium-free. Our products are fully tested and compliant with FDA standards and California Proposition 65 guidelines. We use only high-quality, non-toxic, food-grade materials so you can enjoy your cozy coffee moments with complete peace of mind.
What is the difference between Ceramic, Pottery, Earthenware, Stoneware, and Porcelain?
To understand the difference, it helps to know that "Ceramic" is the umbrella term for the material, "Pottery" is the general term for clay vessels, and the other three are the specific categories of pottery based on the type of clay and firing temperature. Here is the quick breakdown from the largest category to the most specific:1. Ceramic
- Definition: Any inorganic, non-metallic material hardened by high heat.
- Scope: It includes everything from handmade mugs to industrial tiles and space shuttle heat shields.
2. Pottery
- Definition: A major branch of ceramics made specifically from clay.
- Scope: All pottery is ceramic, but not all ceramic is pottery. It is divided into three main types: Earthenware, Stoneware, and Porcelain.
3. Earthenware
- Firing Temp: Low (1,000°C – 1,150°C / 1,800°F – 2,100°F)
- Features: Thick, porous, and easily chipped. It absorbs water unless it is glazed.
- Common Uses: Terracotta plant pots, traditional rustic tableware.
4. Stoneware
- Firing Temp: Medium-High (1,100°C – 1,300°C / 2,000°F – 2,400°F)
- Features: Durable, stone-like texture. It is opaque and naturally waterproof even without glaze.
- Common Uses: Everyday dinnerware, heavy-duty baking dishes, artisanal coffee mugs.
5. Porcelain
- Firing Temp: Highest (1,200°C – 1,400°C / 2,200°F – 2,500°F)
- Features: Made from refined white clay (kaolin). It is completely non-porous, delicate, slightly translucent, and highly chip-resistant.
- Common Uses: Fine china, high-end tea sets, luxury vases.
What kind of ceramic/pottery do you use for your mugs, pots, and vases?
We choose the best-suited materials for each product to blend safety, durability, and a warm aesthetic into your daily life:
- Mugs (Stoneware): Our mugs are crafted from premium stoneware that fully meets all food safety and dinnerware standards. Due to the natural characteristics of stoneware clay, we intentionally skip complex or flashy glazes. Instead, we focus on a simple, earthy glaze finish designed to create a cozy, grounding vibe—bringing you a sense of safety, warmth, and mental healing with every sip.
- Flower Pots / Planters (Earthenware): Our planters are made of classic earthenware, providing excellent breathability that helps your plant roots thrive.
- Vases (Earthenware & Stoneware): Depending on the design, our vases are available in both earthenware (for a rustic, natural matte texture) and stoneware (for enhanced durability and water resistance).
